In this study, a two dimensional bay-river coupled numerical model in Cartesian coordinates is developed to simulate water levels associated with a storm along the coast of Bangladesh. The developed shallow water models, both for the bay and river are discretized by finite difference method with central in space and forward in time and are solved by a conditionally stable, semi-implicit manner on a staggered Arakawa C-grid. The developed model was applied to foresee sea-surface elevation associated with the catastrophic cyclone. The model results were found to be in a good agreement with some observed and reported data.
