Beach Erosion Control Methods
Eco-system based beach erosion control was introduced on the Miyazaki Coast, Japan, by berm nourishment combined with buried sand tube. Observations of wave and currents due to five typhoons impacted in 2014 are presented to demonstrate the large impact of typhoon storms on beach erosion. The northward longshore transport due to a single typhoon storm is found to be as large as the annual southward longshore sand transport. Berm nourishment with buried sand tubes appeared to prevent further dune erosion with minimum negative impact on turtle landings.
