Foreshore Sand Transport
Swash flows and sediment transport is numerically investigated using a 3D RANS model and a shallow water model. We applied the 3D RANS model to simulate experimental dam-break flow-induced swash flows. With the 3D numerical solutions as input data, five methods were used to estimate the bed shear stress, which was then compared with the measured data. We applied a depth-averaged sediment-laden shallow water model to simulate experimental swash flows over a movable bed. Effects of several key factors on swash hydrodynamics and sediment transport were analyzed. These factors include infiltration, sediment transport capacity, sediment saturation length, and bed friction.
