The Hancock County Marsh Living Shoreline Project, developed as a Natural Resources Damage Act Early Restoration project, consists of three restoration components: 5.9 miles of living shoreline to help reduce shoreline erosion, protect the coastal preserve, and re-establish habitat; 46 acres of marsh to be constructed with beneficial use (BU) dredged material to restore marsh areas; 46 acres of subtidal reef to enhance habitat conditions. This presentation will focus on the engineering analysis and the three phases of construction for the 5.9-mile-long living shoreline. Challenges encountered during the design and permitting processes and how they were overcome are also presented.
