World's sinking deltas in general and Mississippi River Delta in particular embody great lessons of how human interventions compromised the ecosystem by disrupting natural processes. Strategies to restore these are further complicated as most restoration projects are first-of-their-kind, either in scale or scope, and do not have well-established boiler plate templates to follow. Overarching solutions to the problem include adaptively managed holistic approach that incorporate robust regional sediment management plans. This presentation will review the challenges faced, their causes, and recent advances supporting an integrated approach to coastal sustainability by strategizing the recommendations of Louisiana’s 2017 Coastal Master Plan.
