Wave and Vegetation Interaction
Around the world, nature-based coastal protection concepts are increasingly being developed and implemented to mitigate coastal hazards. However, aquatic vegetation in the coastal zone often greatly increases the complexity of the coastal (physical) processes, making it challenging to predict coastal impacts. In this talk, we show results from physical and numerical modeling focused on 3D flow patterns that are present in case of submerged vegetation. We particularly focus on the effect of the canopy on the vertical profile of three characteristic wave-induced flow components: mean flow velocities, orbital flow velocities and turbulent fluctuations.
