Sand and Mud Properties
Sediment samples were collected and a dynamic free-fall penetrometer (FFP) was deployed along a cross-shore profile of the sandy beach on the west coast of Sylt, Germany. Results documented a general increase in sediment strength in the offshore direction, and the FFP showed a significant increase in sediment strength in the swash zone. Friction angles and median grain size generally increased in the offshore direction. The preliminary results show a spatial variation in sediment properties and strengths across the beach.
