A field investigation on morphology change around a river mouth opening was conducted at the Tenryu River mouth in Japan. In addition to an analysis of the morphology change every few week or every few months based on measured topography, the daily morphology change and the swash motion under various hydrodynamic conditions were analyzed based on ortho-images recorded at every 1.2 seconds. These analyses revealed that onshore migration of shoals, emerging several weeks after floods, due to overwash at high waves or high tide plays a major role on morphology change after floods such as rapid reduction of the opening.
