Ballast island is a relatively small coral cay formed on the isolated reef located off the coast of Iriomote island in Okinawa, Japan, While the island frequently alters its shape, it remains around the same location for several decades and coral gravels appear to be concentrated around the island. This study carried out a field survey and a numerical study to investigate how coral gravels gather around Ballast island on the reef. It was deduced through this study that characteristic wave fields and wave-associated transport of gravels had dominant influence on such characteristics behavior of coral gravels.
