Embankment covers range from grass to asphalt to rocky types of revetments. Critical erosion of embankment covers due to overtopping waves is currently defined using conservative estimates. To assess failure probability, the actual erosion rate during wave overtopping is required, however the effects of embankment geometry, vegetation type and revetments on a levee are largely unknown. In this research project, a numerical model is developed to evaluate measures to minimize erosion, and provide insight in the effect of transitions between grass covers and revetments for flood defence reliability.
