Consisting of a panel of professionals who have already been through this process, this session will give real-life examples of what one can expect to encounter when first starting out, including licenses, laws, and codes that may pertain to starting a new business, as well as avoiding potential pitfalls.

Principal at Land Concern - Landscape Architecture, a licensed landscape architect with over 40 years of experience, he has served as a two term Chapter President and two term Chapter Trustee for the Southern California Chapter. He was the Host Chapter Co-Chair for the 2017 Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, and is the immediate past chair of the Professional Practice Committee. He also serves on the Licensure and State Advocacy Committee and is a past chair of the Member Services Committee. Andy was appointed by Governors Schwarzenegger and Brown to the California Landscape Architects Technical Committee and continues to serve.

Wendy has over 25 years experience as a landscape architect in public sector urban design and transportation planning. Recently, Wendy opened her own firm specializing in MPO planning and policy development, public involvement, and community corridor design solutions that accommodate all users. She continually looks for innovative ways to engage and educate the public and believes it’s critical to have landscape architects involved in shaping transportation corridors - our most ubiquitous public realm. Wendy currently serves as the ASLA Vice President for Professional Practice and as a member of the Transportation Research Board Landscape and Environmental Design Committee.

In 2012 he founded Duane Border Design, a boutique studio intent on expanding the role of landscape architecture through creative design solutions and interactive environments. Using a wide range of design influences, Duane continually explores the boundaries of landscape architecture by embracing the cultural, artistic and environmental influences of each site to craft a unique sense of place and form an engaging experience for its audience. Under his leadership, Duane Border Design has built a reputation as a collaborative studio with an award-winning tradition.
