There is a large attrition rate of women in the design professions, due to workplaces that are unaware of and unresponsive to the needs of female professionals. Through entrepreneurship women have regained control of their professional and work lives. We will explore the various choices and options that are possible.

Janice Parker Landscape Architects

Since creating Janice Parker Landscape Architects (JPLA) in 1984, Janice has conceptualized and directed innovative landscape architecture for national private and public clients across the United States. Her firm has established a reputation for conceiving, planning, and installing thoughtful landscapes. In 2017 Images Publishing released “Designing A Vision” which showcases the firm’s work. Under her guidance, the firm has been honored with multiple awards, including the 2017 Stars of Design Award for Landscape Design, 2017 New England Design Hall of Fame Award, 2016 Stanford White Award for Garden Design, and the 2015 Professional Merit Award from the CTASLA.

Pamela Burton, FASLA, combines an extensive knowledge of plant materials and the history of landscape with an interest in architectural spaces that have symbolic resonance. As principal of the firm with forty years of professional experience, Pamela oversees conceptual design and plays a critical role in site and program analysis, design development, client presentations and construction observation. She served on the Design Review Board at the University of California, Santa Barbara, on the Design Review Board at the University of California, Riverside, and on the Architectural Review Board of the City of Santa Monica.
