Sometimes a design solution may depend on research to support a new idea. But how can busy practitioners find, interpret, and even create research within a tight project schedule and budget? Come and learn the language of research, how to ask the right questions, and apply findings.

Learning Objectives:

• Understand that the language of the research community is different from that of practice and that a single research project may not provide a simple answer to a complex question.
• Learn how to access existing research to support design and detailing.
• Understand the process of turning a research question into a research project and the process of working with academic researchers to develop questions into supportable results.
• Learn the rewards and limitations of undertaking research within the environment of office practice, and how to gain credibility for the results.
