Dr. Bhavana Rai is a professor in Radiation Oncology at the prestigious Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India. She joined as faculty in the Department of Radiotherapy, PGIMER in September 2009. During this period, she honed upon her interest in the treatment of Gynecologic malignancies, cervical cancer brachytherapy and Palliative care. She has been involved in comprehensive cancer care from conducting and participating in cancer awareness programmes to practicing radiotherapy and teaching palliative Care. She has a keen interest in gynecological brachytherapy and was involved in the collaborative research with the Hindustan Latex Limited, on bladder- rectum spacer balloon in cervical cancer brachytherapy. She is an investigator (PGIMER) in, “An International Study on MRI based brachytherpy in locally advanced cervical cancer (EMBRACE)” and has co-authored various publications being a part of the EMBRACE study group. She has been instrumental in formulating the institutional guidelines for management of ovarian and endometrial cancers. She has guided and co-guided various thesis’ for post- graduate MD students and has publications in reputed national and international journals. She has co-authored a chapter in the “Handbook of Palliative Radiation Therapy” and is a reviewer for manuscripts for various indexed journals. Dr. Bhavana was actively involved in research during her training period and was awarded fellowships and best paper awards at national and regional radiotherapy conferences. Inculcated with missionary zeal during her graduate and post graduate training at the Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, she holds a special interest in palliative treatment in gynecologic cancers and believes in practicing holistic cancer care.
