Biography:
Dr. Sturgis is a professor in head and neck surgery and in epidemiology at MD Anderson. He has devoted much of his career to HPV-related oropharyngeal cancer epidemiology and working to broadly disseminate the message of preventive HPV vaccination, particularly in boys. He is Program Director of the MD Anderson Oropharynx Program, an 8-year clinical and translational research effort across 3 departments supported by a generous gift from Charles and Daneen Stiefel. He is Administrative Leader of the MD Anderson HPV-Associated Malignancies Moon Shot, a large institutional investment to address HPV-related cancers across several clinical and research departments, and in 2015 he was appointed the first Christopher and Susan Damico Chair in Viral Associated Malignancies. He serves on the Board of Directors of The Immunization Partnership, and he is the National HPV Spokesperson for the Prevent Cancer Foundation Think About The Link (TATL) Campaign and on the TATL Advisory Council.
