This session was proudly submitted as a joint session with National Cancer Institute (NCI). Clinical trials are necessary for assessing the safety and efficacy of promising treatments and implementing improved treatment paradigms to better clinical outcomes. While the majority of patients do not enroll in clinical trials, ethnic and racial minority communities are disproportionately under-represented. In order to apply the findings of clinical trials to a more representative population and improve health equity, increasing enrollment of ethnic and racial minorities is critical. Current barriers and challenges facing minority clinical trial accrual will be discussed. Additionally, strategies and current programs aimed at improving this will be presented from the expert panel. By better understanding the challenges to minority clinical trial accrual and strategies to improve minority enrollment, attendees will be better prepared to address this need in practice.
