014IC - Updates in the Management of Penile Cancer: A Case-Based Approach

Recent advances in our understanding of penile cancer as well as the concepts of penile sparing approaches, minimally invasive surgical approaches to the inguinal lymph nodes, and multidisciplinary care to locally advanced penile cancer will be discussed through clinically pertinent case presentations. Throughout these presentations, we will highlight important clinical considerations and review the rapidly evolving peer reviewed scientific literature supporting such treatment approaches. This course is meant to be a very practical course by international leading experts in this field. This course is geared to all healthcare professionals particularly urologists, medical/radiation oncologists, residents, and post-graduate fellows. All presentations will be given as Power Point slide presentations.

Philippe E. Spiess

Professor of Genitourinary Oncology and Tumor Biology
Moffitt Cancer Center

Dr. Philippe E. Spiess has recently been promoted to senior member in the department of Genitourinary Oncology, with dual appointment in the department of Tumor Biology at the Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute as well as an appointment as full professor in the Department of Urology at the University of South Florida. Dr. Spiess serves as the assistant chief of surgical services at the Moffitt Cancer Center. He completed his urology residency at McGill University in Montreal, Canada and completed a 3-year urologic oncology fellowship at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Dr. Philippe Spiess’ clinical and research interests are in the field of penile and kidney cancer and has several research study collaborations on national and international levels. Dr. Spiess has published over 200 peer reviewed manuscripts and has edited 5 textbooks in urologic oncology. He currently serves as the vice-chair of the NCCN panel on bladder and penile cancer and sits on several international editorial boards including Urologic Oncology: Seminars and Original Investigations, BJU International, British Journal of Medicine and Medical Research, and the International Brazilian Journal of Urology. He has been invited to deliver numerous lectures both nationally and internationally.
Dr. Spiess serves on several leadership committees at Moffitt including the Promotion and Tenure committee and Moffitt Junior Faculty Award Committee to select study concepts/proposals worthy of funding by the cancer center. He has several honors and awards that including being named the Moffitt Cancer Center Clinical Educator of the Year in 2014 and being awarded the Methods in Clinical Cancer Research scholar fund by the American Association of Clinical Cancer Research.

Emory University

Viraj Master MD PhD FACS is Professor of Urology, Associate Chairman for Clinical Affairs and Quality, and Director of Clinical Research in the Department of Urology at Emory University in Atlanta GA. His clinical practice focuses on renal, adrenal, testicular and penile cancer. Having completed fellowships in both reconstructive urology with Jack McAninch and in oncology with Peter Carroll, he is comitted to penile preserving therapies, and minimally invasive approaches to groin and pelvic nodes. Along with other colleagues, he refined the videoscopic groin dissection for a variety of cutaneous malignancies, including melanoma, anal, vulvar and penile cancer.

Timothy A. Masterson, MD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Urology at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana. His clinical and research interests are in urologic oncology and complex adult urinary tract reconstruction. He also serves as the director for the Society of Urologic Oncology (SUO) Fellowship at Indiana University.
