035IC - Vaginal Surgery for the Urologist

Vaginal Surgery for the Urologist is a practical surgical techniques course which will cover the major areas of vaginal reconstructive surgery: physical exam, general principals of vaginal surgery (incisions, dissection and exposure) stress incontinence surgery, pelvic organ prolapse, vesico-vaginal and urethro-vaginal fistula repair, urethral reconstruction, urethral diverticulectomy, and complications of vaginal surgery and their treatment. The course will be technique focused and will utilize case presentations and will have extensive use of videos to show different surgical techniques.

Victor W. Nitti, MD, is Professor of Urology and Obstetrics and Gynecology, Vice Chairman of the Department of Urology and head of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery and is the fellowship director for that ACGME accredited program at New York University Langone Medical Center. He is a graduate of the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and did his urology residency at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, NY. He then completed a fellowship in female urology, neurourology and reconstructive urology at UCLA.

Dr. Nitti served on the faculty at SUNY Brooklyn before joining NYU in 1995. He is an authority in urodynamic techniques, medical and surgical therapies for urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, female pelvic reconstructive surgery and voiding dysfunction. He has authored over 150 peer-reviewed articles and over 60 book chapters. He edited two text books: Practical Urodynamics, published by W. B. Saunders and Vaginal Surgery for the Urologist published by Elsevier. He has presented his research at national and international meetings and has been a visiting professor and participated in postgraduate courses throughout the world.

Dr. Nitti is a diplomate of American Board of Urology and a member of the American Urological Association (AUA), the Society for Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine and Urogenital Reconstruction (SUFU), The American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS), the International Continence Society (ICS) and the 1st,-5th International Consultation on Incontinence. He is currently Chair, AUA Office of Education, secretary of the New York section AUA, and serves on the FPMRS Division of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and on the Board of Directors for the New York Section of the AUA. He was President of SUFU from 2010-2012. Dr. Nitti is on the editorial boards of Neurourology and Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, and the International Urogynecology Journal.

Benjamin Brucker

New York University

Benjamin M Brucker, M.D., is an assistant Professor of Urology and Obstetrics and Gynecology at New York University Langone Medical Center in New York, New York. He graduated Cornel University where he earned B.S. He then continued his education at the University Of Pennsylvania School of Medicine where Benjamin earned his M.D. degree. He did his postgraduate medical training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Health System and New York University. He is board-certified in Urology and Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. He has a busy clinical practice at New York University. Dr. Brucker has an interest in male and female incontinence and voiding dysfunction. He has a research interest in urodynamics and neurourology. He is currently the director of the Neurourology program at the Multiple Sclerosis Comprehensive Care Center in New York. He is a member or the Young SUFU members committee.
