Dr. Demetrius H. Bagley is The Nathan Lewis Hatfield Professor of Urology and Professor of Radiology, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA. His major interests are in urologic endoscopy, laser therapy and the treatment of calculi and intrarenal neoplasms. He has been invited to speak widely in 35 different countries.
After receiving his undergraduate and medical degrees at Johns Hopkins University, he completed two years of general surgery at Yale New Haven Hospital before a three year fellowship in oncology at the Surgery Branch of the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Bagley then completed urology residency at Yale. His first faculty appointment was at the University of Chicago (Assistant Professor to Associate Professor 1979-1983). He then moved to Jefferson in 1983 where he remains.
Dr. Bagley is a member of the major urologic organizations including the American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons. He is the past President of the Philadelphia Urological Society and an associate member of the Kimmel Cancer Center. He was Editor-in-Chief of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Endoscopy, and is Associate Editor of the Journal of Endourology and Section Editor of the Arab Journal of Urology, and a reviewer for the Journal of Urology, Urology, British Journal of Urology International and African Journal of Urology. He is the author/co-author of 10 books on urologic endoscopy and over 390 papers and chapters. For 27 years, he has been Chair or faculty of an AUA course on Ureteroscopy.
Dr. Bagley has been cited in the Best Doctors in America and Philadelphia Magazine's "Top Doctors" for stone treatment, cancer treatment and ureteroscopy. He received the Endourology Society Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010 and in 2012, the TJU Inter-Professional Education Award and the Valentine Award from the New York Academy of Medicine. The American Urologic Association presented Dr. Bagley with a “Lifetime Achievement Award” 2014.
