J. Quentin Clemens, MD, FACS, MSCI graduated from Goshen (IN) College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1989. Afterwards he obtained his MD degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Clemens then completed his urologic residency training at Northwestern University Medical School, followed by a fellowship in Neurourology, Reconstruction and Incontinence at the University of Michigan in 2000. He was then a member of the full-time Urology faculty at Northwestern from 2000 to 2007. He completed his MS degree from The Graduate School of Northwestern University in 2003. In 2007, Dr. Clemens was named Director of the Division of Neurourology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Michigan, where he is currently the Edward J. McGuire Professor of Urology.

Dr. Clemens’ clinical interests include female urinary incontinence and neurogenic bladder dysfunction. He is a member of the ABU Examination Committee and the SUFU Executive Committee. In 2014, he received the Paul Zimskind Award from SUFU for his accomplishments in the field of female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Clemens has published over 160 peer-reviewed manuscripts, review articles, invited editorials, and book chapters. His research interests are in the areas of epidemiology and health services research related to benign urologic diseases. He has been Principal Investigator on multiple NIH-funded projects related to urinary incontinence, interstitial cystitis and chronic prostatitis, including the current NIDDK MAPP Research Network and NIDDK LURN Research Network. He is currently serving as Chair of the MAPP Network.

Dr. Clemens has also been actively involved in health policy issues with the AUA, where he was named the Gallagher Health Policy Scholar for 2008-2009. He is past Chair of the AUA Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Committee and the AUA Data Committee, in which capacity he led the development of the AQUA registry.
