Asset Management: Being Proactive Prevents Disaster
Resilient Infrastructure For Wastewater And Stormwater
Wednesday, April 18
11:10 AM - 12:00 PM
Location: Meeting Room 314, Sacramento Convention Center
CWEA: 1 Contact Hour
Practice Area: Team Challenge Area: Managing Assets for Longer Life Cycle
With a changing climate, there are new and potentially costly impacts to wastewater and stormwater infrastructure. The One Water LA team used EPA's infrastructure tool, CREAT. Risks and threats to assets were identified and mitigation approaches highlighted. Numerous solutions and cost estimates to prioritize at-risk assets were presented. There will be a discussion on how spending only 10% now in modifications to infrastructure design and construction, will result in 90% savings in the future.
- Participants will understand how planning and designing infrastructure for current CIP projects is important for significant cost savings in the future. Also, recognizing the importance of evaluating existing water infrastructure against the risks of climate change and what can be done cost effectively.
- Identify the maps, tools, and agencies to contact that are necessary to identify the at-risk assets.
- Compare the practical solutions identified by the City and other areas to their areas and infrastructure needs.
