CCCSD is undertaking vital projects at the headworks of its WWTP to mitigate operational risks and replace obsolete equipment. The projects entail replacement of influent screening systems and switchgear serving the plant’s influent pumping station. This presentation will address screening technology and construction sequencing required to maintain operations throughout construction.

Biography:

Mike Walkowiak is a managing engineer in Brown and Caldwell's Walnut Creek office. He has specialized in planning and design of resource recovery facilities over the past 27 years and is registered in both civil and mechanical engineering in California and is currently serving as project manager for Central San's Headworks Upgrade projects.

Biography:

Chathu Abeyrathna is an associate engineer at Central Contra Costa Sanitary District (Central San) and project manager for treatment plant capital improvement projects including the headworks screening upgrade project. He has been with Central San for five years. He is a graduate of UC Berkeley in mechanical engineering and a registered professional engineer in California.
