Grit has been classified based on particle size or mesh size distribution despite that fact that most important characteristic of the grit is its settling velocity. Grit settling velocity has been debated over a number of years. Yet, there is no accurate way of measuring grit settling velocity. In this presentation, you will learn a new methodology of characterizing the grit based on particle settling velocities. Also, you learn about the new settling velocity column.

Biography:

Dr. Hany Gerges has nearly three decades of experience in waste water engineering, with specialized expertise in Physical chemical processes hydraulic analysis, optimization and modeling, including computational fluid dynamics modeling (CFD modeling). His experience has included evaluation, optimization, and design of more than 65 waste water treatment plants worldwide. Hany is one of the lead authors of WEF recent manual for Grit Sampling and Characterization.
