Aquatic toxicity testing is typically required in NPDES permits. This presentation will provide a basic overview of typical permit requirements, and distill this rather complicated science down to basic principals and activities. Common confounding factors and test interferences will also be addressed, with tips on how to identify them.

Biography:

Stephen Clark is a Vice President at Pacific EcoRisk (PER), which provides environmental consulting and testing services to a wide range of regulated parties, including NPDES permittees. For over 28 years, he has been directing and participating in aquatic ecotoxicology and environmental chemistry research and testing through various research and professional positions. Over the last 18 years during his employemnt at PER, he served as a Laboratory Director, QA Officer, and Project Director prior to becoming a partner and Vice President. He has extensive experience implementing NPDES permit requirements and designing/managing environmental monitoring programs for irrigated agricultural, watershed programs, and MS4 stormwater clients. He has served on numerous technical committees through several Regional Water Quality Control Boards, and is serving as the chairman for the State Water Board's Environmental Laboratory Technical Advisory Committee (ELTAC) for their Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program.
