Working with What You Have: Optimizing Secondary Treatment Performance in Existing Plants
Retrofitting Oxidation Ditches to Achieve Simultaneous Nitrification and Denitrification
Thursday, April 19
2:50 PM - 3:40 PM
Location: Meeting Room 313, Sacramento Convention Center
SWRCB Wastewater: 0.1 CEU
CWEA: 1 Contact Hour
Practice Area: Team Challenge Area: Nutrient Management and Removal
Does your plant use oxidation ditches? Are you concerned about reliably meeting nitrogen limits in your permit? Are you anxious about the expense of conventional approaches to denitrification? This session will provide a practical overview of simultaneous nitrification and denitrification and cost-effective improvements to existing systems to achieve nitrogen compliance.
- Apply the basic principles of nitrification and denitrification and oxidation ditch design to the diagnosis of process performance in existing oxidation ditch or other extended aeration systems.
- Identify potential applications for modifications to promote simultaneous nitrification and denitrification in existing oxidation ditch systems.
- Evaluate and select on-line instruments suitable for the application and desired process control strategies.
