Advanced Residential Energy Efficiency Technologies

This session will present advanced technologies and highlight applied research findings that are shaping the future of home performance. Participants will learn about analyses and data on savings potential of residential energy efficiency technologies, including analytical tools and data available to prioritize technologies and measures by region. Additional panelists will present on innovations in field-based equipment diagnostic and monitoring tools, including how data and analytics can help home performance programs and trades deliver greater energy savings, monitor post-installation performance, and more effectively target customers and efficiency measures.

Steve Dunn

Project Manager
U.S. Department of Energy

Steve Dunn has over twenty years of experience working to advance innovative energy and climate change solutions in the nonprofit sectors and government. In his current position, he is a Project Manager with the U.S. Department of Energy, Building Technologies Office, in the Residential Buildings Integration program, supporting initiatives focused on energy efficiency financing, advanced HVAC technologies and local governments. At DOE, he led the project management team responsible for a $500 million portfolio of 40 award recipients under the Better Buildings Neighborhhood Program. Prior to DOE, he worked at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, DC, where he led national efforts to advance clean energy and climate policies at the state and local level.

Eric Wilson

Research Engineer, Buildings & Thermal Systems Center
National Renewable Energy Laboratory

Eric Wilson is a research engineer in the Buildings and Thermal Sciences Center at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). He leads the development of the ResStock analysis tool for highly granular modeling of energy efficiency potential across national, regional, and local residential building stocks. Prior to joining NREL, Eric completed his master's degree in Building Systems Engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Senior Consultant - Emerging Savings Opportunities
Vermont Energy Investment Corporation (VEIC)

Nick Lange is an expert in residential energy program strategy and implementation, with a focus on the application of enabling technologies and services. As a lead of VEIC consulting’s emerging savings opportunities team, and in his role leading Efficiency Vermont’s Resource Acquisition Research and Development work, he works to develop and deploys tools and offerings to meet near term objectives in the service of long term strategic goals. Nick’s particular perspective contributes depth and critical thinking to the special challenges and opportunities afforded by areas like connected thermostats, behavioral savings initiatives, and customer engagement.
