Energy Auditor: How to Prepare Before You Go To Training

Does the idea of taking the BPI Home Energy Professional (HEP) Energy Auditor certification exams cause you the same type of angst as a visit to the dentist? What can you do even before going to training to give yourself an advantage in the class and exams? In this session you’ll learn about the certification exam requirements and learn tips and techniques such as how you can use your job and home to help you prepare. Simple tips for taking written exams will also be explored.

Suzanne is a nationally-recognized energy professional with 25 years of experience in the design and management of residential efficiency and training programs. She is a distinguished leader in developing curriculum and strategies for weatherization training courses and events—playing a fundamental role in facilitating the education and accreditations necessary for service providers to successfully implement energy efficiency upgrades for low-income residents in Wisconsin. Suzanne directs all tasks related to WECC’s technical training center and BPI test center.

Allen Carbert

Project Coordinator
Opportunity Council

Allen Carbert is a Project Manager for Opportunity Council—a private, non-profit Community Action Agency located in Bellingham, Washington. He is a NEHA certified Healthy Homes Specialist and holds BPI certifications as a Healthy Homes Evaluator, QCI Inspector and Building Analyst. He has coordinated healthy homes and weatherization projects for over a decade and is now involved with program design and the implementation of Washington State’s Weatherization Plus Health initiative at the agency level. Allen has witnessed first-hand the benefits of Healthy Homes improvements as well as the challenges that face agencies as they blend weatherization and healthy housing principles.

Amanda Hatherly

Director, EnergySmart Academy
Santa Fe Community College

Amanda is the Director of the Energy$mart Academy at Santa Fe Community College, one of the National Weatherization Training Centers. She teaches both national certification courses and undergraduate and graduate classes through SFCC and Boston Architecture College. Amanda is the Principle Investigator on two National Science Foundation research grants on online education for technical training. She is part of the team that developed the national Water Efficiency Rating System (WERS). Amanda is on the Board of the Santa Fe Area Homebuilders’ Association, Energy Out West and the Sustainable Santa Fe Commission.
