Resiliency is an issue at a building level and at the grid level. How do we integrate building performance and efficiency into building level resiliency and recovery efforts? At a grid level, how do efforts to diversify sources of generation and create local generation work in combination with residential building performance and efficiency? Or will efficiency be lost as a value as the market shifts to distributed energy generation? New York, New Jersey and other states are struggling with these issues. Attend this session to learn more about the efforts being undertaken in these states to build a more resilient approach to energy efficiency.

Greg Thomas is CEO of Performance Systems Development. He is also chair of the Efficiency First trade organization, a member of the RESNET board of directors, recipient of the Building Performance Institute Life Time Achievement Award in 2010 and the past president of Affordable Comfort, Inc. Greg has 30 years in building performance as a consultant, trainer, and whole house contractor.

Joseph Fiordaliso

New Jersey Board of Public Utilities

Born and raised in the Ironbound-section of Newark, New Jersey, President Fiordaliso served as a Commissioner on the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) since 2005 when he was nominated by Governor Richard Codey and confirmed by the Senate. In 2011 and 2013, President Fiordaliso was re-nominated by Governor Chris Christie and confirmed by the Senate to continue as a Commissioner of the NJBPU. On January 16, 2018, he was appointed by Governor Phil Murphy to serve as President of the NJBPU. President Fiordaliso also serves on the National Association of Regulatory Commissioners’ (NARUC) Committee on Critical Infrastructure and Committee on Energy Resources and the Environment; and is a member and investment chair of the Mid-Atlantic Conference of Regulatory Utilities Commissioners (MACRUC), member of the National Council on Electricity Policy (NCEP), and is also on the Board of Directors of the Organization of PJM States (OPSI).

Leveraging 25 years’ experience in residential energy efficiency and sustainability, applied building science, and energy and environmental policy, Courtney Moriarta provides technical and strategic consulting services to government, utility, and private sector clients. She has managed field crews, authored technical standards, trained thousands of building performance practitioners, designed programs, and successfully led initiatives throughout the Northeast to promote rational public policy, effective program design, and enable home performance business opportunities. Her recent work includes providing technical support and thought leadership for the state of Massachusetts and to the U.S. Department of Energy promoting scalable solutions for realizing greater energy efficiency in home improvement markets regionally and nationally. She founded Seek More LLC in 2018 to freely and independently serve her client base by seeking out strategic solutions that redefine the possible.

Mary Sheehy currently works for APTIM on Superstorm Sandy Recovery - the NJ Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, Elevation and Mitigation program (RREM). She works with homeowners, their contractors, non-profits and the NJ Department of Community Affairs (Sandy Recovery Division) - providing compliant solutions, guidelines and tools; communicating requirements to stakeholders and program participants; and conducting training for program staff. Ms. Sheehy is a specialist in HUD CDBG-DR program requirements and restrictions - including Section 3, Davis-Bacon, Energy Efficiency, Green Building, Lead & Asbestos requirements, and other construction knowledge. Her previous experience includes management and implementation of state and federal residential programs in the areas of energy efficiency, renewable energy and multifamily affordable housing.
