Air-source heat pump installations, and especially ductless systems, are a fast-growing market in a wide range of climates. Strategic electrification, energy and carbon savings, and rapidly evolving technologies are helping spur tremendous growth. This session will look at some promising developments in heat pump technology, efficiency ratings, and overall understanding of ductless and air-sourced heat pumps place in today's HVAC and home performance world.

Bruce Harley is a nationally recognized expert on energy efficiency. With three decades of experience retrofitting and analyzing homes and HVAC systems, teaching building science, developing energy software and savings models, and developing technical policy and standards, Bruce is known for his ability to provide complex information in an engaging and understandable style. He has published three books with the Taunton Press, and received several national awards. Bruce main focus is currently heat pumps: developing realistic lab tests and models, design and installation guidance, consulting with state and federal agencies, utility companies and programs, monitoring systems in the field and educating stakeholders at all levels.

Bruce is a nationally recognized leader in residential consulting on energy efficiency, energy efficiency technical training, implementation of conservation programs, and quality control testing. Bruce has helped clients across the country develop program strategies for HVAC, new homes and existing homes programs. Bruce previously owned an energy services company, Delta T, specializing in the implementation of residential energy conservation programs and services. In April 2016, he was inducted in the Building Performance Industry Hall of Fame recognized for his significant and lasting contributions to the building performance industry over the course of his career. Bruce is currently on the Board of Directors for Efficiency First.

David Treleven holds a B.A. in biology and a M.S. in building construction with a concentration in sustainable construction. He has worked in the construction field as a laborer, construction manager, HVAC designer, rater, researcher, and building science consultant. At Ultra-Aire, Treleven utlizes his past experience to create high performance dehumidifcation and ventilation solutions for the mixed-humid and hot-humid markets. In addition, Treleven conducts in-field monitoring and measurements of systems to understand how Ultra-Aire's equipment is best utilized.
