Bullet Journals are customized organizational systems that only require a pen and a notebook. They can serve as a to-do list, calendar, project management tool, contact list, habit tracker and so much more based on your individual needs. Flexible and user-specific, Bullet Journals can also serve as an outlet for your creativity by incorporating doodles, sketches, and calligraphy. As library professionals, bullet journals are an excellent tool to manage your day-to-day tasks, projects and plan your career path. They can also be a great tool for creating work-life balance by helping track healthy habits like step count, water intake and breaks. Use Bullet Journals as a tool for supporting your mental health by monitoring your moods, celebrating successes, acknowledging areas of improvement and providing an space for self-reflection. This interactive workshop provides an overview of the system, time to collaborate and discuss planning tips, ideas and challenges, and a chance to experiment with commonly used supplies.
Although there are numerous websites dedicated to bullet journaling, getting started can be overwhelming. Discovering what tools to buy, what layouts to use and what content to track can be daunting and, inevitably, prevent someone from trying the system. Michelle McKinney and Kellie Tilton, academic librarians at the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College have been Bullet Journaling for several years using a variety of layouts that have evolved over time. They will provide an overview of the original Bullet Journal system and share how they have customized the system to their own needs. They will discuss the benefits of planning your bullet journal ahead - from one week to one year - and embracing the flexibility of the system. One of the best benefits of bullet journaling is the ability to reuse ideas from fellow journalers. This session will provide participants an opportunity to brainstorm ideas for setting up their own Bullet Journals; develop and share layout designs; and map out ways for current journalers to further develop their existing systems. The workshop includes a Petting Zoo that will provide participants a chance to review, test and use related tools and supplies.
