Director of Access Services - Assistant Professor
University of Colorado Colorado Springs - Kraemer Family Library
Born in Mexico, moved to the US at 16, and first-generation immigrant and graduate. I received an MLIS in 2014 from the University of Arizona with an emphasis in Academic Library Management and an MPA in 2013 from the Arizona State University. I have worked in libraries for 19 years starting as a Student Worker. I have worked in Interlibrary Loan, Circulation, Reserves, Collection Management, Special Collection, and Reference. Currently expanding my knowledge in Instruction and Collection Development while performing my assigned duties as Faculty Director of Access Services, Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs.
Previous work includes the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO; Arizona State University in Phoenix, AZ; Pima County Public Library and the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ. I didn’t know there was such a career as librarianship until 1999 when I started working as a student worker at the University of Arizona Libraries. Since then, I have been passionate about providing seamless access to information to all. I am also interested in Social Justice and Copyright. I am currently serving in a number of committees such as the ACRL Diversity Committee (Chair), ACRL ASIG, and COALA (Member-at-Large).
I am a philosopher and I know that everyone is an educator and a learner throughout life. Discovering something new is my goal every day. There are no insignificant questions as they inspire research. Let’s help each other for better days! I am happy, optimist, calm, and procrastinator at times. One of my biggest secrets in the profession is that I don’t read for pleasure… but I promote reading!
