Diversity recruitment has long been a focus for our profession, especially in light of the changing demographics of our communities. However, diversity recruitment also helps achieve a larger goal of innovation, organizational change, and ultimately social impact. This session will use the development of ALA’s Center for the Future of Libraries as an opportunity to consider how diversity is key to innovation and thinking about the future. With insight from ALA’s Spectrum and Knowledge Alliance recruitment programs, we will look at how our profession can not only change its composition, but can also be strengthened by new perspectives that enhance our values and enrich our conversations.
