Loida Garcia-Febo will be sharing innovative ways in which librarians and library advocates can use stories to advocate for libraries and garner support to keep libraries open, maintain budgets, and provide access to information to all in our communities. These includes a national initiative to encourage the creation of videos, posters, social media items, and in-person events to amplify our library advocacy message to Congress, at the state house, in city councils, and school boards. All library advocates can develop these and share by using a dedicated hashtag that will link all the posts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. Librarians and library advocates will be able to access resources on a dedicated page within the ALA website. Library leaders from academic, public, and school libraries will speak at this event and will share examples about how they are contributing to these library advocacy efforts which are part of Garcia-Febo’s ALA Presidential Initiatives for 2018-2019.Provide 3 learning objectives that are clear, measurable, and achievable.
