The Savvy Senior Book Stop is a service offered by the Los Angeles Public Library where the library aims to bring books and other materials every 8 weeks to specific locations where that the participants check-out and return onsite. LAPL strives to provide services to all Angelenos, even when they are unable to travel to the library, and supports the “Purposeful Aging” initiative, which integrates the needs of older adults in city services. If you can’t come to the library, LAPL will bring the library to you.
LAPL is able to provide services to seniors through collaborations with community partners: Meals-on-wheels and Menorah Senior Housing. This involves a significant commitment of time and resources. LAPL works closely with our community partners to reach a demographic that otherwise might be overlooked. Savvy Seniors obtain their free library cards onsite with their picture I.D. and fill out a material interests survey. Books are selected by staff and brought onsite to be given to the Savvy Senior participants. Staff also provides onsite programming that is age-friendly with the development of memory skills, stress management, and technology skills.
