Knowledge River is an educational experience within the University of Arizona’s School of Information that specializes in educating information professionals who have experience with and are committed to the information needs of Latino and Native American populations. Knowledge River fosters understanding of library and information issues from the perspectives of Latino and Native Americans and advocates for culturally sensitive library and information services to these communities. Join Gina Macaluso, University of Arizona School of Information, Yamila El-Khayat, University of Arizona Health Sciences Library, Verónica Reyes-Escudero, University of Arizona Special Collections, Amy Rusk, Pima County Public Library, and current Knowledge River Scholar Vicki Lazaro, as they share their successful partnerships in supporting mentoring, service, and employment between the library school, the information profession community, and Knowledge River scholars. Panel will share their successful approaches to financial assistance, professional development opportunities, mentoring, recruitment, and graduate assistantships to provide the Knowledge River students the support they need to earn the MLIS and become information professionals serving their communities.
