An Introduction to Virtual Reality and Its Use as an Educational Tool

This presentation will serve as an introduction to virtual reality and delve into its use as an educational tool. Points of discussion will include universal design, current uses in education, current companies utilizing virtual reality as an educational tool, challenges in preservation and access, as well as the role universities can play in facilitating it's use. I will also talk about my own research at Temple University on workflow development for the creation and preservation of virtual reality assets.

 

Learning Objectives:

• Upon completion, participant will be able to understand what virtual reality is.
• Upon completion, participant will be able to identify opportunities and challenges to virtual reality as an education tool.
• Upon completion, participant will be able to understand gaps in the digital lifecycle of virtual reality and make more informed long-term decisions as to its potential use in their institution.
