Power of the Grassroots: A Call to Action and Organizing
Close out JCLC 2018 by looking to the strength of Grassroots activism in your local community. Join speakers Eva M.L. Rios-Alvarado, Cynthia Palacios, Aisha Conner-Gaten, and Nancy Olmos, members of "Librarians of Color, Los Angeles" for brunch as they explore how we can better articulate our activism as librarians and community members. Librarians of Color, Los Angeles (2014-Present) is a grassroots, people of color collective comprised of librarians and information workers. “Through networking and collective community, we seek to connect alternative rhetoric and living theories to support one another in our areas of specialty or exploration interest. We are called to action to continue to work toward the eradication of anti-Blackness and other forms of racism and oppressive discrimination (LOC-LA Manifesto).” We will also recognize our rising leaders and legacy recipients as chosen by each of the five ethnic affiliates.
