A Mexican-American author from Deep South Texas, David Bowles is an assistant professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Recipient of awards from the American Library Association, Texas Institute of Letters and Texas Associated Press, he has written several titles, most notably the Pura Belpré Honor Book “The Smoking Mirror.”
MaryLouise Patterson is a pediatrician, retired from clinical practice at Cornell Medical College - New York Hospital. She is the daughter of Langston Hughes's cherished friends, Louise Thompson Patterson and William L. Patterson, whose letters contribute to the book she co-edited, "Letters from Langston: From the Harlem Renaissance to the Red Scare and Beyond". Hughes was a frequent guest in the home of the Patterson family and was like an uncle to MaryLouise.
Ron Querry is the author of a half-dozen books, including the award-winning novel, “The Death of Bernadette Lefthand.” He has a PhD in American Studies from the University of New Mexico and his writing frequently depicts the intersection of white and native worlds. Of mixed Native American and European American descent, Querry is an enrolled member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. He lives in northern New Mexico.
