Richard D’Augusta is the National Director of the Human Research Protection Program for the Office of Research Oversight (ORO) for the Department of Veterans Affairs. He is a Clinical Pharmacist with a Masters in Public Administration and has over thirty five years, experience in Human Subjects, Animal Care and Research Regulations.
As the National Director of the Human Research Protection Program, he is responsible for research compliance and assurance for all VA Medical Centers (VAMCs).
Prior to ORO Richard was the Associate Director, of the Office of Clinical Research at Boston University Medical Center where his primary responsibility was to build a Research Infrastructure to support clinical research at the Boston University Medical Center.
Prior to Boston University, he was the Director of the Protocol Administration Office at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute from 1980 to 1999. He served as the Administrative Chairman for both the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. He also served as the Administrative Chairman of the Dana-Farber Partners Cancer Care IRB from 1987 to 1999.
Richard was also one of the Original Founders of ARENA (The Applied Research Ethics National Association) and served as Treasurer over ten years.
