Melissa E. Abraham, PhD, MSc, is director of the Research Ethics Consultation Service in the Division of Clinical Research at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and a clinical psychologist. She is an assistant professor in psychiatry at Harvard Medical School (HMS), an associate psychologist at MGH, faculty associate at the Center for Bioethics at HMS, and associate faculty at Ariadne Labs. Dr. Abraham obtained her doctorate from Northwestern University Medical School, and a master’s degree in epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health. She completed the Fellowship in Bioethics at HMS, and was a member and Chair at the Partners IRB for 15 years. In her current role, she provides consultation to investigators to improve the quality of IRB submissions and reviews, discussing the ethical underpinnings of institutional and regulatory requirements with researchers, and assisting in the communication of quality improvement, social science and behavioral research methods, and practices to the IRB. She teaches bioethics at HMS and has a psychotherapy practice in Boston, MA. She is a member of the AER18 Core Conference Planning Committee.
