2018 HPC National Conference Session
Getting good air flow in even the best duct materials isn’t easy. It requires design, skill, and patience. When it comes to flex duct, however, those three qualities are often absent. Allison Bailes and Mike MacFarland will show you the contorted results, explain the problems, and describe how flex duct should be run. They’ll also discuss the physics of air flow, including how flex duct compares to rigid sheet metal, and show you how to make flex duct systems work in the real world.
Allison Bailes writes the Energy Vanguard Blog for the company of the same name, which he founded in 2008. He also has built a high-performance home out of structural insulated panels, run a home performance company, and worked as regional manager for the EarthCraft House green building program. He earned a PhD in physics from the University of Florida, is on the board of directors for the Passive House Institute US (PHIUS), and is a member of ASHRAE. In addition, he juggles and skis and has the honor of being included in Who’s Who of American Women.
