Dental and endodontic education in the US may be considered an expensive commodity with limited access. The path to becoming an endodontist is, however, different in other countries and global mobility brings these potentially different kinds of endodontists much closer to each other. A major component in this is the availability of digital and social media. Another aspect to consider when thinking about the future of endodontic education, is the practice of endodontics itself. For example, with the prospect of non-instrumentation disinfection techniques and biologic treatment modalities, it is conceivable that endodontic education may shift away from being “skill acquiring” training by the year 2030.
This presentation by two educators, both themselves at home in different educational systems, will explore what it is that makes an endodontist of the future and will discuss how the teaching of endodontics may change in the next few years to be more inclusive, rather than rigid, which will promote patients’ well being and providers’ livelihood.
