Residual bacteria have been shown to influence regenerative endodontic treatment (RET) in animal models. Recently, a multi-centered clinical trial of RET was funded by the Foundation for Endodontics, and conducted in four dental schools. Microbiological samples at different stages of treatment were obtained from all patients, and analyzed using contemporary molecular methods. This presentation will address the preliminary microbiological findings in immature teeth with pulp necrosis, the effectiveness of various clinical disinfection and medication protocols, and the differences in microbiological findings in cases with and without clinical success of treatment.
