Dr. Migliorati is the Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs and Quality Assurance at the University of Florida College of Dentistry and a professor in oral medicine. He graduated from Sao Paulo University (USP), Brazil in 1972. He holds two Masters degrees. one in Stomatology (USP) and another in Oral Biology (UCSF). He received his PhD from USP in the field of Stomatology and HIV/AIDS, and is board certified by the American Board of Oral Medicine. He is currently the Vice President of the American Board of Oral Medicine. He is a member of the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer and the International Society of Oral Oncology (MASCC/ISOO). His work with the mucositis study group of MASCC/ISOO led to the development of guidelines for the use of Photobiomodulation (PBM - laser/LED light) in the prevention and therapy of oral mucositis. He specializes in Supportive Care in Cancer and collaborates with oncology groups in Brazil, Europe, and the US. He works with cancer patients throughout cancer treatment, providing diagnosis and management of oral complications of cancer therapies. His letter to the editor of the Journal of Clinical Oncology (JCO) in 2003 was the first report in the medical literature of osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ) associated with oral bisphosphonates. He has been working with this oral complication for over 15 years He has over 80 peer-reviewed publications.
