Nowadays, lasers have been suggested in the modern endodontic armamentarium, mostly aiding the disinfecting procedures – either directly or indirectly. The incorporation of this technology into everyday endodontic practice requires thorough understanding of the physics behind the application, as the parameters of laser irradiation (wavelength, pulse length, power, fluence) affects the interaction with the target tissue (through absorption, penetration depth, diffusion etc) and all of the above influence the outcome. This lecture will review the associated literature on evidence-based terms and will address the potential of the “light” for laser-assisted endodontics.
