Experience is the stock-in-trade of the expert, and by virtue of our training, we are each considered to be experts from the moment we are certified as endodontists. And yet, at the edges of our individual levels of experience, we are ALL still novices in certain areas. Reinforcing positive experiences, and learning from the negative hones our expertise - a process continuing throughout our careers. With a collective 75+ years in clinical practice, Drs. Lou Berman and C. John Munce have the callouses on their fingers and the bleach stains on their surgical scrubs earned while knocking off some of the rough edges of their novice-ness. From avoiding and managing IAN damage and recognizing “fracture necrosis,” to innovative isolation techniques for the surgical management of resorption, and from creative radiographic approaches for the centered exploration of calcified canals, to rapid root extrusion procedures to facilitate isolation, they will share a variety of those sometimes-painful experiences that have rendered useful and novel strategies and techniques for overcoming some of our most vexing clinical and practice management challenges.
