Director of Marketing & Communications
Missouri Historical Society
Leigh Walters is the Director of Marketing & Communications for the Missouri Historical Society (MHS). She has more than 13 years of experience in communications and marketing, with significant expertise in arts & culture, non-profit and publishing industries.
Walters led the comprehensive rebrand for MHS and its entities: the Missouri History Museum, the Library & Research Center and the Soldiers Memorial Military Museum. She transformed MHS's advertising strategy by introducing the institution's first-ever brand awareness advertising campaign. Both the rebrand and brand awareness campaign debuted in January 2018, resulting in a 10% increase in first-time visitors and a 19% increase in visitors from the millennial and Gen X demographics.
Walters joined MHS in 2011 as Assistant Director of Communications. In this role, she oversaw all press and digital communications for the institution.
Prior to joining MHS, Walters worked as Public Relations Associate at Lents & Associates, LLC, a creative communications agency in St. Louis. At Lents & Associates, Walters' client list included national leaders in the arts & culture, destination and tourism fields. She also spent time working in publicity in the trade book publishing industry.
Walters earned her Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from Truman State University. She holds a certificate in Publishing from the University of Denver’s Publishing Institute. She is a member of the American Alliance of Museums.
