President and Chief Executive Officer
Marise McDermott is the President and CEO of the Witte Museum (since 2004), Where Nature, Science and Culture Meet, through the lens of Texas Deep Time. McDermott recently headed a $100 million transformation (New Witte) of the 92-year-old museum in San Antonio, Texas and is about to embark on a $100 million endowment campaign (Witte Forever) targeted for the 100th Anniversary of the museum. The Witte has recently completed re-accredtation by AAM and has been accredited since 1974. McDermott has served as an AAM peer reviewer for more than a decade and has given several presentations at the annual conference and at Texas Association of Museums, Building Museums Conference, and other museum associations. She serves on the Board of Directors of San Antonio's VisitSA and is a past Chair of the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau, past Tri-Chair of the Alamo Advisory Committee and has served on many other community boards. McDermott has won numerous awards, including San Antonio Business Person of the year in 2017. She holds an MFA in writing, focusing on cultural narratives, and is the author or editor of more than 50 publications. McDermott has been a professional in cultural journalism and museums for more than 30 years.
