Elizabeth Pierce reveals an earnest passion to fuel curiosity. Her passion sits at the nexus of science, history and early childhood development to unleash wonder and celebrate knowledge.
Elizabeth began her career as part of the team opening Chicago Children’s Museum at Navy Pier (1994-1999). She served as a communications consultant to Cincinnati Museum Center in 2001, and joined the Duke Energy Children's’ Museum Advisory Board in 2004. Serving as the chair of the advisory board and as a CMC trustee, before joining staff as vice president of marketing & communications in 2007.
She has been a key member of the senior leadership team, assuming the CEO role in April 2015. Elizabeth has focused on driving financial success through robust museum admissions revenue, OMNIMAX films and blockbuster special exhibitions. Pierce helped secure the 2009 National Medal of Museum & Library Services award and the 2012 Accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums. Elizabeth served as a key leader in the 2012 merger with The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center.
Elizabeth has dynamically engaged CMC curators and exhibition staff to leverage the vast collections for community impact and fundraising growth. Pierce has been a leader in the efforts to secure public support for Union Terminal, guiding the 2014 sales tax campaign, and historic restoration of this National Historic Landmark (2015-2018).
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Miami University (Oxford, Ohio); and holds a Masters of Museum Studies/Administration and American Studies from The George Washington University.
