Julie Charles is SFMOMA’s Deborah and Kenneth Novack Associate Curator in the museum’s Education and Public Practice Department. She currently oversees all aspects of the museum’s expanded school initiatives, including the museum's ongoing collaborations with the San Francisco Unified School District and the Integrated Learning Department within the Alameda County Office of Education. Since 2006, Julie has designed and led programs for families, youth/teens, students, teachers and the museum’s vibrant and active docent program. Julie began at SFMOMA as the Manager of Docent Programs, a role she had for nearly 10 years. Julie has taught art history at Bay Area museums and at local universities. She also teaches art as a parent volunteer in her son’s elementary school class. Julie earned both her BA (University of California, Los Angeles) and her MA (American University, Washington, D.C.) in Art History and in 2012 was a graduate of the Getty Leadership’s Next Gen program.
